Driving Programs
Taranis Training Ltd. offers top quality training for both the AZ and DZ licenses. All of our courses meet or exceed industry standards.
In these courses, students gain the knowledge required to operate commercial vehicles. Upon successful completion, all graduates will be trained to meet or exceed MTO standards and will be provided with a certificate of completion.
Taranis Training has been pre-approved to offer the MELT (Mandatory Entry Level Training) professional driving course which is required prior to a road test being scheduled.
Training for the AZ license is done in a three-stage process over 210 hours, and the DZ license is completed over 166 hours – taught by some of the most experienced drivers in the business. First, students spend time in the classroom, learning about safety, planning, methods of handling, and much more. Then, students take this knowledge and use it while operating the truck in a closed-course range, with one-on-one driver training. As their skill increases, students move on to the real streets, where they learn to drive in all conditions, both in the city and on the highway.
As of July 1, 2017, the Province of Ontario has introduced Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) for Class A truck drivers to improve road safety. The 115 hours of training will ensure that all new commercial Class A truck drivers are trained to the same minimum standard before taking the Class A road test. All new drivers attempting the Class A road test on or after July 1, 2017 will be required to successfully complete the course.
Taranis Training is registered as a Private Career College under the Private Career College Act 2005.

Driver's Abstract
A driver’s abstract is a three-year record of a driver. It includes such information as conditions/restriction, status, and infraction history.
You can request your driver’s abstract on the Ontario Service website. You will need your license information and it costs $12.
Admission Requirements
- At least 21 years of age
- Grade 12 Diploma OR completion of C.A.S.T. Test
- Class G Driver’s License
- M.T.O. Driver’s Medical
- Recent Driver’s Abstract (with less than 3 demerit points)
Equipment
Our students use 53 foot trailers, fully loaded to simulate real world conditions. These trailers are among the largest in the industry. We teach on these trailers to ensure that our students feel confident in handling even the largest of loads when they operate in their career.
